Brutal
like the squirts. Washington D.C.'s Carrion carries a post-hardcore torch
while wearing an Am Rep shirt with yellow underarms. The Crime Of Idle
hands will most likely be reflected on as the bedsore on Epicene's side,
as this is just straight ahead fucking heavy, that is if you consider
Dazzling Killmen to be straight ahead. A masterpiece that surmises it's
punk and metal roots and will become a classic in it's own in due time.
This could be the crust kids raised on metal's version of South Of Heaven
or perhaps My War, time will tell. Split release with McCarthyism.

...I
have no idea how to describe these guys and will probably never be able
to. The first thing that comes to mind was MASTODON if their muse was
punk and not metal, but no punk would play and write intricate guitar
parts and time changes like those found here. CARRION is pretty goddamn
heavy, as heavy as anyone else, but not in the typical downtuned, bludgeoning,
battering way...It's more cerebral than anyhting else. It won't make anyone
thrash around in fits, but once all is said and done, the ass feels kicked."
"...The vocals and music compliment each other well. Both are frenzied,
but never veer out of control. Once you hear CARRION, you'll realize what
a feat that really is. The lyrics, like the vocals, are pissed but don't
become redundant and are poignant." "...they sound like no one
else. CARRION is one of the most origianl and interesting bands to ever
come along and the album is in the same spirit. The real genius
of the experiment is that it works. Too many bands have dared to be different
and failed because they can't pull it off, but CARRION does more than
pull it off, they raise the bar.-Matt Urbancich

Picture
a band that stands midway between MASTODON and TODAY IS THE DAY. Now picture
that same band standing midway between NEUROSIS and BLACK FLAG's My War.
One immensely tallented trio, the drummer is a powerhouse, the guitarist
can veer from FUGAZI weirdness to total atonal doom in the drop of a hat,
and the bassist has a nice fat tone that propels everything along,
while still playing incredibly complex lines. Notice the word complex...
Not technical, but complex. The arrangements are complex, the playing
complex, but none of this is ever technical... There is a huge helping
of punk in this, but not your weepy-ass Spirit of '77 punk..." "Highlights
are an absolutely pulverizing drumbreakdown in Without Pity, Alignment
with its absolutely jaw dropping update of Pain Of Mind era NEUROSIS,
and the closer, My Flesh, which is perhaps the most straightforward metal
of the album, before transforming itself into one doomy affair that explodes
into release." "On top of all of all this, add some highly intellegent,
introspective lyric and you've got one hell of a hard album to peg down...-tagplazen

Good good. The sound just bowls you over." "I can't say enough
good things aboutCARRION's new album... Maybe it's the fact that from
note one of Bitterness it just knocks you straight in the head. Their
music is beautifully raw and supremely heavy at the same time. ....It's
not metal, it's not hardcore, and it's certainly not punk. It's just heavy.
Songs like Smite are way out there, with discordant riffs and dirgey vocals.
These guys have a knack for making you feelthe pain in their music, especially
on Worship, without resorting to cheesy Emo-ethics. The music speaks of
pain and loss more effectively than any whinning maggot with a hip-retro
haircut and a record advance could while yelling about how his girlfriend
dumped him. The instrumental Window Out of Solitude is alllll the more
proof one would need that these guys do not think nor write songs like
the average heavy band. ...this incredible knack for removing any musical
boundaries while still injecting an overdose of emotion reminds me of
a slew of underground bands who are charting similar territory..."
"Produced by THE HIDDEN HAND's Bruce Falkenburg...the album sounds
seven miles wide. The opening sections of Consume, My Flesh, and Gongs
of Violence just bowl you over with sheer heaviness. You can hear every
damn instrument in the mix... ...The guys put this advantage to full use,
charging ahead with an energy and live-feel that knocks you for a loop.
Pay close attention. These guys are making worthwhile and unique music
that deserves to be heard.- Ken Wohlrob
